Another day another opportunity to serve. As my journey is coming to the end I wanted to make sure that the new group of angels had all the tools they needed. We took three vans to the refugee center, it was the first border run for the newly arrived brave women who came to serve.
At the refugee center we met a family of eight: three generations: parents, kids and grandchildren. They needed to get to the train station but didn’t know the process. After chatting with the missionaries at the info desk we learned that we had a little over an hour to get them to the train station, buy tickets and make it to the platform. It was quite a race. We got there with 30 minutes left till departure. The line to get the tickets was long but I quickly learned about the man in the orange vest who happened to be a guy selling tickets. He was trying to explain to one young man that tickets were free only for women and children from Ukraine. He asked if he could pay with Ukrainian currency. He was a student from Egypt who studied in Ukraine.
I told the ticket guy that i will cover the cost. With 25 minutes to go we had our tickets. Shon grabbed a volunteer to help us find the platform. Of course the platform was the furthest one and our wagon was at the very end of the train. Long story short we got them on the train with 16 minutes to go. We don’t know their names but it doesn’t matter, we understand, we needed to get them on the train and there was no time for introductions.
Interesting this to see how many people travel with their animals. Its very difficult to find a pet friendly long term housing but it doesn’t stop Ukrainian people from trying to save their family members. Some pets are a little bit unusual to say the least Meet Tosha. Owner, older lady, survived multiple weeks of bombing of Maryupol with Tosha and simply couldn’t leave him behind. I haven’t met either personally but the feedback is hilarious(to me at least): “its a living hell to live with Tosha, its like a tragedy that is set on repeat every night. This rooster wakes up every night at 3am and doesn’t what rooster do…”
On my way to Krakow now, two more families are eager to get to their new home.
