Our efforts continued with Dental and Medical missions each year 2014-2019 until Covid shut down the country to Foreigners in 2020. Type of Wood Charities returned November 2022 for the first Dental Mission in almost 3 years. The next Dental mission is planned for early June 2024. We are always looking for Dentists, hygienists and good people who want to join us in our endeavors to serve the Filipino people.
The Birthplace of Type of Wood Charities is the Philippines. In early 2014 a group of family and friends joined Rob on a humanitarian trip to help rebuild homes after the strongest storm in history destroyed hundreds of villages in the Philippines. This experience was life-changing. It was so impactful that Rob went home and set up a Non-profit (Type of Wood Charities) to share with others this life-changing work. Rob took two more groups in May and November 2014 to help rebuild homes. On that initial trip, Rob met Craig Proctor, a Dentist from Utah, who asked about the possibility of coming back on a Dental Mission. Rob and Craig coordinated the first dental mission with the November 2014 building group, it was named “Operation Tooth and Nail”.
Type of Wood Charities also works with Rise and Rebuild International Foundation with efforts to feed malnourished children in the Philippines. During some humanitarian trips, we work at the Rise and Rebuild Farms planting and harvesting, help serve lunch at a Rise and Rebuild Nutrition center at a local school and witness the feeding programs in the local communities for expecting and nursing mothers, toddlers and pre-school children. These trips are very informative and allow volunteers to immerse in the culture and see the benefits of their efforts to help others. The ground cost for our Philippines trips begin at $2,000.
